War veterans and retired government employees can expect to receive their benefits next year as government readies close to P60 billion for pensions and other incentive packages, Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr. said Friday.

Andaya said more than half of the amount would be spent for the basic pensions of retirees from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of National Defense, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The amount, as specified in the Pension and Gratuity Fund, will be released and administered by the following agencies, led by the DND with P30.3 billion of which P13.2 billion is allocated to the AFP general headquarters, and P17.02 billion to the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) gets P7.8 billion, with the Bureau of Fire Protection getting P402.5 million; the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, P223.4 million; Philippine National Police, P7.1 billion.

The National Mapping and Resources Information Authority (NAMRIA) of the DENR gets P7.5 million while the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) under the Department of Transportation and Communications gets P98.7 million.

"The pensions also cover uniformed personnel of the DILG including the (defunct) Philippine Constabulary-Integrated National Police, NAMRIA, and the PCG," Andaya said.

Andaya noted that aside from these funds, government has also earmarked P20.9 billion for the payment of retirement and terminal leave benefits.
