The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday said it has directed its regional directors and revenue district officers (RDOs) to go after government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) and 56 local government units (LGU) in their jurisdiction and collect P22 billion in back taxes.
The collection is expected to boost the agency's chances of hitting its P830-billion target this year, according to BIR Commissioner Joel Tan-Torres, who gave the marching orders to the bureau's regional directors and revenue district officers (RDOs) where these erring firms are located.
Tan-Torres asked the RDOs to write final demand letters before the cases are submitted to the courts for resolution.
He also asked BIR Deputy Commissioner for Legal and Enforcement Gregorio Cabantac to coordinate the collection efforts and file criminal and civil cases in court against the heads and finance officers of the enterprises and LGUs for not settling the tax debts. (PNA)RMA/JCA
