SHARING ENERGY EXPERIENCES

Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi met with Ghana officials yesterday (11 October) and discussed experiences and possible energy cooperation between Ghana and the Philippines. The Ghanese Delegation was headed by Minister John Peter Amewu (Energy – fourth from left) and Minister Ken Ofori-Atta (Finance – fifth from left). Also present were Philippine Ambassador to Ghana Shirley Ho-Vicario (middle), Consul to Ghana Carlos Rufino (second from left), Senior Undersecretary Jesus Posadas (second from right) and Philippine National Oil Company President Reuben Lista (first from right).

Ghana consulted the DOE about their experiences in the power sector, as the Ghanese government is exploring options on how to go about the possible privation of its power sector segments- generation, transmission and distribution. Currently, generation and transmission in Ghana is a government monopoly, and the country is seeking ways to increase supply and manage its high tariffs. Distribution of power in Ghana, meanwhile, is being operated by a consortium led by Philippine-based, Manila Electric Company (MERALCO). The Ministers of both countries also agreed to forge a cooperation agreement to strengthen the ties of the Philippines and Ghana and to have capacity building, as well as technical, technological and manpower exchanges.

The Ghanese high-level delegation is here in the Philippines to encourage local investors to invest in Ghana, particularly in the power sector.

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
