MANILA, Philippines — The German government has offered 25 million euros (about P1.5 billion) in the form of a debt swap to support health projects related to the Millennium Development Goals, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said.
The debt swap will serve as the Philippines’ contribution to the MDGs, as the health projects concern HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, said Economic Planning Secretary Ralph Recto, director general of the NEDA.
Under Germany’s reformed process for debt servicing, the Philippines will no longer have to pay certain debts but use the money to finance health programs, Recto said, citing information from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
