Former Palawan governor Joel Reyes had escaped abroad?
« on: August 30, 2012, 01:06:10 PM »
Two personnel of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 3 were ordered relieved in connection with the departure of Joseph Lim Pe, allegedly the name used by former Palawan governor Joel Reyes.

Atty. Maria Antonette Mangrobang, BI Spokesperson, said Immigration Officer (IO) Westley Gutierrez and Orodelio Udarbe had been ordered to report to the BI main office on Thursday.

“I assume they already received the recall order today, They are expected not to report to NAIA 3 tomorrow but report to main office,” she said.

The BI official said the two would be investigated as Gutierrez was the one who cleared Lim Pe, while Odarbe was the one who investigated reports that the former facilitated the departure of passport holders Lim Pe, and companion, Mario Reyes.

However, Mangrobang clarified that the recall order was not issued to confirm that the former Palawan official was able to flee the country.

“As far as the BI is concerned, we could only confirm the departure of a certain Joseph Lim Pe. Likewise, coordinate with counterpart immigration who secured biometric records of the arrival of these persons and the cctv footages if available so we could countercheck and ascertain if Joel Reyes and Joseph Lim Pe is the same person based on the record,” she said.

She added that BI Commissioner Ricardo David ordered the duo's relief.

BI records showed that Lim Pe and his companion left the country on May 18, 2012 bound for Saigon, Vietnam via a Cebu Pacific flight.
