TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, March 28 (PIA) - - All forest rangers in the Cagayan Valley Region will be on full alert after the regional environment chief here ordered all provincial and community environment officers to be vigilant and implement the “Oplan Huli Week” during the observance of the Holy Week.
Atty. Gil A. Aromin, DENR regional director, directed all environment officials in the ground to establish a 24-hour mobile checkpoints in strategic locations within their respective territorial jurisdictions.
“We need to be on guard as perpetrators of illegal forest activities would take advantage to engage in timber poaching and transport of forest and wildlife products,” Aromin said.
He added that all forest officers, forest rangers and forest protection officers shall be mobilized in monitoring illegal transport of forest and wildlife products.
Aromin also advised the concerned personnel to be alert in detecting and providing quick response on forest fires and other forest destructive incidents in their respective areas as well as in coordinating with the law enforcement agencies for assistance to ensure security of those who will man the checkpoints.
In the “Oplan Huli Week” last year, DENR personnel apprehended a total of seven units of conveyances loaded with 39.54 cubic meters of forest products. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan with reports from Corie Corpuz, DENR-2)
