The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday spotted another low pressure area (LPA) in Mindanao which has the potential to become the first cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this year.
According to PAGASA, the LPA may bring rains to Southern Luzon and Visayas.
Boy Soriaga, weather forecaster, said as of 2 a.m. Tuesday, the new LPA was about 680 kilometers east of Mindanao while the LPA spotted Monday in Bicol has dissipated.
Soriano said they are monitoring the new potential cyclone which is expected to enter Philippine territory either Thursday or Friday.
He said if this LPA turns into a cyclone, it will be named “Ambo.â€
Soriaga said the southwest monsoon (Habagat) is expected to continue affecting the weather in the country.
PAGASA advisory said Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
It added light to moderate winds from the northeast to north will prevail over Luzon, and coming from the north to northwest over Visayas, and from the southwest over Mindanao.
