The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of Santiago city conducted a capability
training to selected firefighter-volunteers.
Claro Comoda, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer, said the city government has allowed to accept firefighter
volunteers in the city to help Rescue 206 and the BFP to immediately respond to fire incidents to lessen damages on lives and properties.
Comoda admitted that the Rescue 206 and BFP only has limited personnel to effectively carry out its mandate to serve and protect the needy constituents particularly on fire incidents.
“I salute firefighter volunteers who willingly offered themselves to serve as firefighters in the city,†Comoda said.
Firefighter volunteers were taught the basics in firefighting from laying out water hose to firefighting using the fire trucks and its equipment.
Comoda said the acceptance of firefighting volunteers is first of its kind in the city as the need to increase manpower is needed due to the limited manpower of the BFP and Rescue 206.
