ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Filipino-Turkish Tolerance School (FTTS) will once again commemorate the feast of Eid’l Adha on Friday, September 1.

Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is Kurban in Turkish.
FTTS director Maruf Celebi on Thursday said that as an annual tradition, they will slaughter several heads of cattle “as a form of sacrifice, and will distribute its beef to indigent families or recipients in the different communities.”

“We also share these beef with the different government and non-government institutions in the city, thus, signifying the real essence of this great observance,” Celebi said.

He said the religious act of slaughtering the cattle will be held starting at 8 a.m. in the school grounds of FTTS.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared September 1 a regular holiday in observance of the Muslim festival Eid'l Adha.

The declaration was issued through Proclamation No. 297 which the President signed August 29, 2017.

Eid'l Adha is one of Islam's two major feasts that is celebrated worldwide each year.

The festival commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, as an act of obedience to God's command. (PNA)
