« on: December 13, 2008, 07:31:52 AM »
By Julmunir I. Jannaral, Correspondent
Manila Times

The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh has taken cognizance of the case of 15 sheikhs or pilgrim guides the Office on Muslim Affairs (OMA) in Manila has accused of human trafficking for their failure to bring back to the Philippines the 105 pilgrims under their stewardship.

Ambassador Muhammad Ameen Wali of the Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Manila on Friday said he hopes the Department of Foreign Affairs will do something and help in tracking down the 15 hajj guides through the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah headed by Consul General Ezzedin Tago.

Siguro gusto pod sa gobyerno dire nga daghan mag TNT kay kulang sila sa manpower.

Sagdi lang kung illegal basta mo tubo ang atong economiya sa ilang mga remittances.

Although that incident seemingly beats the purpose of our Filipino pilgrims taking homage to the holyland of Mecca and Madina, they think of no other recourse to sustain a decent life here in our country. They direly wanted to land a job in Saudi throuhg TNT because nobody from the Philippine government cares for them. They don't want to be recruited by the Abbu Shayaf for unIslamic cause. Our Moslem brothers love peace and prosperity in their lands that they do not want these extremest Muslim fundamentalist to ruin their dreams.

There are training centers in the mountains of Afgahnistan and Pakistan. Some of the recruits who are apprehended or get caught are Filipinos who made their jihad and never returns. This is documented.

Belle, ambot kon unsa ka kusog ang censorship diha labi na sa USA, dinhi daghang mga professional journalists nga feature pirmi ang mga relevant news. For example Bohol is the only place in Asia which qualified for ISO 9000, this is some norm given by Greenpeace for a well intact environment.  There are concerned groups who monitor the human rights violations in our country which is based in Krefeld.  There is also a group who monitors the bank account of Ate in Munich, at marami pang iba.

Saudi is a very peaceful country, but very un-democratic. You can not imagine the tight security here.

There are checkpoints in every corner and  they are arresting anybody who is propagating extremism.

Majority of the Saudis are against violent change and extremism. They even ban the Palestinian head scarf which represents Holy War.

I can say that Al Qaeda is 99% iradicated in Saudi. However, it continues to flourish in the mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Last July, President Bush visited here and no civilian nor vehicle is allowed within 1 Km range from his route.  We can only see him on TV.

There are even more Al Qaedas in UK and Germany than in Saudi.

manay tess: i'm particularly interested with your mention of bohol being "qualified for ISO 9000" which greenpeace lauded for a well-intact environment as one of the many items featured by media professionals in germany. i'm just wondering if this might actually mean ISO 14001. ISO 9000 is the international standard for quality management system (QMS), and ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management system (EMS). i don't know if the province of bohol or the provincial government of bohol is certified to ISO 9000 but i'm sure the provincial government of bohol was certified to ISO 14001 in October 19, 2001. i have first hand information about this because i had professional involvement in the initiative to get the provincial government certified to ISO 14001 which was made possible through a grant from the united states agency for international development (USAID). the certifying body which conducted the environmental audit was TUV Product Service which is a german company. greenpeace had nothing to do with it.

I will try to search more on this because there was an article about environmental assessment in German language, this was  year ago. My daughter who is now finishing her MarineCoastal engineering  ( TU Berlin) reported it to me, will check the veracity.

Manay

ps
I always stand to be corrected Ondoy Bolingotoy.
ISO 14001 is the international specification for an environmental management system (EMS). It specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products/activities/services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets, checking and corrective action (Wikipedia)
If you have more details about this, fine and thank you.

basically, that's the general definition of EMS, manay... i'm just wondering if the provincial governmentof bohol was able to maintain the ISO 14001 certification that was issued to them in 2001. every 3 years, an audit is supposed to be conducted to ensure that the standards are being maintained and that continual improvement activities are being conducted as part of certification requirements. if standards are not met as seen from the result of an environmental audit, the esablishment/entity that was issued a certification is decertified.

My daughter Mayumi got this information from a Filipina scientist Dr Hontiveros Primavera while was making an apprenticeship in Marine Institute of Netherlands (2007) , she introduced herself as half Boholana, ( I taught them to emphasize their heritage). This certification is audited from time to time.Hopefully our tourism in Bohol, in terms of sustainable development is doable.

getting the provincial government of bohol certified to ISO 14001 standards was designed to make it a model for environmental management that hopefully will be emulated by various industries including the tourism sector. back in early 2000, orientations on EMS were given to members of the bohol chamber of commerce and industry, all government-owned hospitals (15 of them at that time) and the tourism sector. hopefully, the bohol environment management office (BEMO) will able to follow up on those sectors with regards to adoption of environment management practices and pollution prevention/pollution control (P2/PC) measures.
