Indonesian authorities have repatriated the 54 Filipino fishermen whom they arrested for fishing in Indonesian waters, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Saturday.
Reports reaching the office of Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, PCG commandant, show that 54 fishermen, who were repatriated from Bitung, Indonesia, were turned over to Coast Guard Station General Santos.
The fishermen were repatriated by Indonesian authorities on board F/B KM Rimar Jaya 206 recently.
Initial investigation showed the fishermen were crew members of F/B Jayvee, F/B Jef-Jef and F/B TP -1011.
They were apprehended by the Indonesian authorities on different occasions for fishing in Indonesian waters without registration from the said country except Romeo Luques.
Luques, of Kiamba, Sarangani Province, was reportedly separated from his mother vessel F/B Mark Rose on June 22, 2010 while fishing at Moro Gulf onboard his service boat which drifted towards Indonesian waters due to strong winds and big waves.
At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, the fishermen who are in all good physical condition were turned over by Coast Guard Station General Santos to Department of Social Welfare and Development –General Santos City for proper disposition. (PNA)
