The parents of a Bacoleña, or a Bacolod native, who is detained in a Bangkok jail on drug charges, will ask King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand for clemency on behalf of their daughter.
Nede Talaban, mother of Flory May Talaban, 28, who is serving a life sentence at the Correctional Institute for Female Offenders in Bangkok, Thailand, for possession of illegal drugs, said they will write the King of Thailand to grant clemency to her.
Nede and her husband, Florentino, met on Sunday with Bayan Representative Neri Colmenares who gave them two possible options that they could take so their daughter could come home.
One was for her parents to write the King of Thailand and appeal for clemency, which is allowed under the Thai criminal justice system.
But doing so would require that Flory May allows her parents to write the King on her behalf, said Colmenares.
Another option was for Flory May to apply for prison transfer to the Philippines where she could serve out the rest of her sentence.
But the Talaban couple turned down the second option, saying their daughter should not have been jailed since she was innocent of the charges, Colmenares said.
Colmenares said the couple believed that their daughter was just unwittingly used as drug mule by a drug syndicate in Thailand. - PDI
