The National Bureau of Investigation has filed charges against a beautician allegedly responsible for a botched cosmetic operation on a man who suffered infection reportedly from silicone injections.
Lawyer Ruel Lasala, deputy director for intelligence services, said Roderick Melchor, alias Bambi, of Cembo village, Makati City, is facing charges of violating Republic Act 2382, also known as the Medical Practices Act of 1959, at the Makati Prosecutor's Office.
The case stemmed from the complaint of one Roldan Paredes, who claimed that he suffered serious physical injuries after the suspect performed cosmetic surgery on him.
The complainant said the suspect injected elecant oil, a silicone variant, into his breasts and hips supposedly to improve his body figure. However, he claimed that he suffered an infection that required hospitalization and corrective surgery by legitimate surgeons.
Melchor was arrested in an entrapment operation at 5J's Beauty Salon on Kalayaan Avenue, Cembo village, last October 13 as he was about to inject the substance on an NBI asset who posed as a client.
A verification made with the Professional Regulation Commission showed that the suspect was not a licensed physician, the NBI said.
