KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The Kidapawan City government’s Public Employment Service Office (Peso) and the Department of labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted on Monday the first-ever Jobstart Employers’ Partnership Forum here.

Dubbed as “Jobstart program,” it seeks to assist unemployed youth to find decent job by supporting them to make informed decisions through technical skills and develop life skills competency significant to stiffer competition in the labor market.

Mary Joy Pasigan, Jobstart Program Officer of DOLE-12 Bureau of Local Employment, outlined  these mechanics of Jobstart before some 100 human resource officers and establishment owners.

Sisinio Cano, DOLE-12 regional director, said the project enables DOLE to partner with local employers through three-months training and three months internship as a stage of skills enhancement to fill-up the company’s vacant job.

Employers who will commit to engage the program will also receive funding in exchange to the commitment.

“It will answer the current problem on job mismatch due to the unsuited career degrees earned by our graduates,” Cano stressed.

Under the program, the youth beneficiary will receive stipends during the training and at least 75% of the minimum wage from the employer during the same period.

Kidapawan City and General Santos City are the only LGUs in Soccsksargen chosen to pioneer the implementation of Jobstart in the region.

Of the 200 slots for the program, 105 were filled-up by employers in the city, mostly hiring for skilled workers.

“We’re hoping but I am confident to earn more nods from our partners to fill-up the remaining slots for Jobstart,” Herminia Infanta, Kidapawan City PESO manager, said.

She also urged unemployed youth to apply and value the program to ease unemployment in the locality.(John Andrew G. Tabugoc/PNA)
