DOJ tapping NBI to probe involvement of Sen. De Lima in illegal drugs trade at NBPBy Christopher Lloyd T. Caliwan
MANILA, Sept. 23 (PNA) – The Department of Justice will tap the services of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in probing the alleged involvement of Senator Leila de Lima in the illegal drugs trade at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre on Friday said he would turn over documents from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to the NBI for the latter to conduct probe that would strengthen the filing of cases against de Lima.
The AMLC report will be turned over to the NBI to conduct further investigation and it would be up to them to pursue the lead, Aguirre told reporters.
†I am planning (and) I will be out of the investigation and I would tell the NBI to continue the investigation. I will turn over all these docs to the NBI and they continue the investigation. I will talk to NBI Director Dante Gierran,†he said.According to Aguirre the AMLC has already forwarded to the DOJ several documents and bank transaction records.
Aguirre refused to divulge the amount involved in the drug transactions based on AMLC documents adding that there are still additional documents needed for the probe.
He said the amount was still confidential and could not determine the exact amount yet.
Based on the bank transaction reports of AMLC, Aguirre stressed that there are private corporations benefitted from illegal drug trade inside the NBP.
However, he refused to identify the name of the corporations.
He said that there were bank transaction reports that may have links to high profile inmates and their ties outside.
When asked about the role of the corporations, Aguirre explained that there are names of their stockholders who are friends with drug lords.
â€Makita ang link na yan kung makita ang isang corporation kung makita ang stockholders lumabas ang pangalan na ito. Ito kaibigan ito ni ganito.. magkaka lead diyan,†he explained. (PNA)
