LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 10 --- The Department of Education (DepEd)-Bicol highlights the relevance of K to 12 programs as support to the celebration of the golden anniversary of Association of South East Asia Nation (ASEAN) during the launching of its information kiosk, Thursday at the DepEd regional office in this city.

Ramon Fiel Abcede, DepEd regional director, said today the kiosk is a demonstration of support to the awareness campaign on ASEAN@50 and country’s chairmanship and hosting of this year’s ASEAN events.

“The kiosk, installed by the 13 schools divisions of Albay, showcased information, education and communications related to ASEAN and best practices on the implementation of the enhanced basic education curriculum or the Kto 12 program,” Abcede said.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Revsee Escobedo, as the keynote speaker, said K to 12 is necessary to provide learners with much needed knowledge and skills that would capacitate the younger generation to compete not only within the ASEAN community but also globally.

Support is needed from the community and other stakeholders for the successful implementation of the K to 12 program and other DepEd plans, Escobedo added.

DepEd-5 has been hoisting the ASEAN flag and singing the ASEAN anthem during flag-raising ceremonies and prescribing the wearing of ASEAN-inspired attires every first Monday of the month to its employees as part of its awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, Aida Naz, PIA regional director, commended the agency’s initiative of launching an ASEAN Info Kiosk --- as the first among DepEd’s regional offices to install such a project in support of ASEAN@50.
