DAVAO CITY -- Seven hundred computer units and servers were seized in a massive police raid on a business process outsourcing company (BPO) on Sobrecarey street here Thursday.

Two women employees named in the search warrant and several others are facing charges for allegedly selling cyber pornographic materials.

Judge Isaac G. Robillo Jr. of the Regional Trial Court branch 11 in Davao City issued the search warrant on Cyber City Teleservices, one of the pioneer BPO companies in the city.

The raid was conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Davao Region and the CIDG's Task Force Maverick based at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

CIDG-Davao Region chief Pedro B. Cabatingan said some employees of the BPO firm will be charged with violation of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act 8792 or the Electronic Commerce Act of 2000, which provides for the recognition and use of electronic commercial and non-commercial transactions.

The BPO firm was allegedly selling pornographic sites, penis enhancer with free pornographic DVD and sex toys, among others.

It took the authorities eight hours to finish the raid.

However, employees of Cyber City Teleservices denied the charge hurled against the company.

Karren Nylee Aton, 31, an information security management system compliance specialist and lead auditor for seven years now, said their company is a certified ISO 27001 registered and is not engaged in illegal activities.

"Their accusation is a no-no here in our company. I've been working here for a long time and there's no such illegal activity going on here," she said.

Lugvigne Diola, Cyber City counsel, meanwhile said the company has nothing to hide as they did not commit anything wrong.

"As far as I know, Cyber City did not commit anything wrong. But since there's due process, then we let them investigate on the matter. We respect that, anyway, the investigation is ongoing," Diola said.

The CIDG has placed the company under surveillance after they received reports that it is engaged in selling pornographic materials. CIDG then sent an agent posing as a client availing of these materials.

Cabatingan said monitoring on other call centers in the city is also ongoing. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
