Dagupan records add’l 4 new Covid-19 cases
« on: April 24, 2020, 09:58:23 PM »
DAGUPAN CITY —The city government here confirmed on Friday an additional four new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients, bringing the total cases in the city to 11.

The Dagupan City Public Information Office (PIO) posted on its Facebook page that the laboratory test results received by the city government from the Baguio General Hospital indicated that the new cases are three medical front-liners and a 37-year-old woman.

“The medical front-liners work at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC), where they were exposed to Covid-19 cases being treated there. The 37-year-old woman, a resident of Barangay Bonuan Boquig, has a travel history to Mabini town Pangasinan, which she reached by foot,” the post stated.

The PIO added the Department of Health and the City Health Office had begun conducting contact tracing.

Of the total 11 cases in the city, eight were medical front-liners.

“Mayor Marc Brian Lim reiterated his appeal to city residents to stay home and strictly follow quarantine rules,” the PIO said.

Lim extended the extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) in the city after President Rodrigo Duterte earlier extended the ECQ in Pangasinan until May 15, the post added.

The additional four new cases in Dagupan City ended the zero new cases trend in Pangasinan since April 15 when the number of confirmed cases remained at 36.

Of the total number of cases in the province, 23 have already recovered, while nine patients have died.

In a previous radio interview, Provincial Health Office chief, Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, attributed the big recovery rate in Pangasinan to the better treatment procedures by front-liners in the health sector and also to the early consultation of patients.

“The people of Pangasinan should follow home quarantine regulations, including social distancing strictly and to always wear face masks in public,” she said.

De Guzman added the four remaining cases admitted to the hospitals are in stable condition with a strong chance to recover.

Two of the remaining cases are from Urdaneta City and one is from Laoac town, who are all confined at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City. The other patient from Dagupan City is currently confined at the Region 1 Medical Center.

The latest recovered patients in the province are a male from Rosales town and a female from Bayambang town.

The 49-year-old male from Rosales town was admitted at the PPH on April 5, while the 31-year-old female from Bayambang town was confined at her home since March 17.

There are a total of 230 suspect cases in the province as of 7 p.m. April 23.

Of the total number, 164 have already recovered from the symptoms, while 44 have died, and 22 are still admitted to the hospitals.

The PHO confirmed that out of the 44 suspect cases who died, 37 have tested negative for Covid-19 while five are awaiting test results and one whose specimen was not collected.

Pangasinan is among the high-risk areas that will remain under ECQ until May 15. (PNA)
