Anti-COVID vaccines procured by private sector cannot be resold --- Galvez
PASIG CITY (17 MARCH 2021)--- Anti-COVID vaccines procured by private companies cannot be resold and must only be used for their intended purpose, which is to inoculate frontline workers.
This was underscored by Secretary Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., National Task Force against COVID-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar on Wednesday, as he acknowledged the legitimacy of tripartite arrangements entered into by the private sector with the national government to secure vaccines for their employees.
“Ang private sector po hindi po sila nagbebenta. Sila po ay bumibili para sa kanilang mga frontliners. Pwede po ‘yun,” Galvez said.
In January, around 300 companies and 39 local government units (LGUs) signed a tripartite agreement with the British pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca and the national government to collectively purchase about 14.4 million doses of the vaccine.
A similar agreement was forged in November 2020, wherein 30 companies purchased 2.6 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines. Under the arrangement, half of the vaccines would be donated to the national government.
“Yan po ang ating batas para magkaroon tayo ng larger volume, ina-allow natin ang mga private sectors at LGUs na bumili ng vaccines. Pero dumadaan po ‘yan sa national government,” Galvez said.
The Vaccine Czar stressed that the private sector must strictly adhere to the vaccination priority framework drawn up by the interim National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (iNITAG).
“Ang disposition pa rin po ‘nun is according sa iNITAG’s protocol of prioritization, so hindi po sila pwedeng magbakuna na uunahin nila ‘yung kanilang mga pamilya. Ang uunahin po natin ‘yung mahihirap na empleyado, ‘yung mga driver, ‘yung mga frontliners na nakita nating nandoon ang burden of disease,” Galvez said. ###
