News Release: Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade had a very productive and engaging virtual discussion with Czech Ambassador to the Philippines, Her Excellency Jana Šedivá, held today, 16 March 2021.
Our Transportation Chief and the Ambassadress agreed on a concrete way forward regarding the Czech Embassy’s proposal to initiate a modular construction of air traffic control tower, as well as other vertical facilities on selected regional airports, with emphasis on Bantayan Airport, in Cebu. Other airports mentioned for possible modular construction of vertical facilities are Baguio, Busuanga, Virac and Tawi-tawi. For this, a meeting will be scheduled between the proponent’s technical team and CAAP’s technical personnel. The said meet will aim to address all pending technical concerns from the CAAP side in order for the proposal to move to the next level of implementation.
Other points of discussion include several rail transport infrastructure projects, programs, and initiatives, as well as the vessels being mobilized by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in a bid to further explore areas for potential collaboration and partnership.
DOTr Officials who were present during the virtual meet are Chief of Staff and Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal, and CAAP Chief of Staff Atty. Danjun Lucas.
