COMELEC abides by SC order
« on: November 13, 2012, 09:40:39 PM »
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday it will comply with the Supreme Court order stopping the implementation of its resolution disqualifying four party-list groups from participating in the 2013 midterm polls.

Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said the poll body respects the decision and hopes that the High Court would come out with the merits of the petitions before January, next year.

The printing of ballots is set to begin on Jan. 20, 2013 after the poll body finalizes the list of candidates for the May 13 elections.

On Tuesday, the SC issued a status quo ante order in favor of disqualified party-list groups such as Ako Bicol, 1st Consumers Alliance for Rural Energy Inc. (1-CARE), Alliance for Rural Concerns (ARC), and Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives (APEC).

It also ordered the poll body to comment on the matter within 10 days.

The four party-list groups separately filed petitions asking the Supreme Court to immediately act on their disqualification by the poll body. - PNA
