The
Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the
Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has recorded a whopping P6.3 billion collection in the first quarter of 2012, higher than the P5.7 billion actual collections during the same period of 2011.
Despite its failure to collect this year’s quarterly target of P7.2 billion, BOC District III Collector Carlos So on Saturday said the bureau’s actual collections grew by 9.92 per cent, but still they have to double work to hit the quarterly target.
So, a lawyer, expressed optimism that the district collection would have proficient revenue collections on the second quarter, hoping his district would surpass monthly collection target and for the rest of the year so it can be able to recover the shortfall incurred during the first quarter of 2012.
So said that revenue collection targets might as well be achieved as long as the importation would be much better on the second quarter of the year.
The
airport customs chief added that their collections are also higher than what was collected for the same months last year.
Earlier, it was reported that the BOC missed its goal due to low collection turnout brought about by the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Because 70 per cent of the country’s imports came from China and the almost one month celebration of the Chinese New Year greatly affected the agency’s collections.
