PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – More than 200 homes in a seaside village were gutted down by fire Sunday morning, displacing nearly 800 residents.

The fire happened shortly before 10 a.m. along Roxas Street, Barangay Bagong Silang, a Muslim-populated coastal village.

Barangay official Victoria Oblan said the fire victims were temporarily relocated to the barangay hall and nearby basketball court where they are being assisted by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

“The number of houses that got burned is not less than 200,” Oblan said, adding it is the second fire that hit Bagong Silang this year.

The fire was placed under control around 10:30 a.m., according to Senior Fire Official Nilo Caabay Jr. of the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Initial investigation conducted by the BFP showed the fire started inside the house of a certain Cris Danyo and quickly spread to other houses made of light materials.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine the total amount of damages. (PNA)
