Classes in Puerto Princesa suspended due to rains brought by LPA
By Archie T. Barone

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- Classes in the elementary and secondary levels were suspended Wednesday as "Auring" that had weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) continue to bring light to moderate rains over Palawan province.

The cancellation of classes was announced by the City Information Office (CIO) of the city government.

In its 4 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was estimated to be 165 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa.

Affected areas are Puerto Princesa, the capital city of the province; San Vicente and Roxas in northern Palawan; and Aborlan, Narra, Quezon, Sofronio Española, Brooke’s Point, Rizal and Bataraza in the south.

Weatherman Sonny Pajarilla of PAGASA said the rains brought about by the LPA could last the whole morning to middle of the afternoon.

Gilbert Baaco, head of the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), said the provincial government has been monitoring the LPA since Tuesday.

He added that there were no reported landslides, flooding, or mass evacuation of residents.

As part of preventive measures, they are monitoring two large rivers in Aborlan that are prone to flooding.

“Our monitoring is continuous 24/7, especially Palawan Rescue 165, and last night the report we received was that there’s heavy rain in Aborlan, and we are monitoring two of the town’s largest rivers but so far, everything is okay,” Baaco said.

If rains continue, the PDRRMO chief said there flash floods and landslides are likely to happen in municipalities where the soils are weak.

Aside from Aborlan, the PDRRMO is also closely monitoring the southern town of Quezon.(PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
