A joint Cebu City Hall and police intelligence team seized at least P3 million worth of pyrotechnics from the stalls of three distributors inside a mall in Cebu City Tuesday night.
The stalls were raided by officials from the City Treasurer’s Office, assisted by the operatives of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), for violating City Council Resolution 1394, which prohibits the sale, distribution and testing of firecrackers and pyrotechnics outside the designated firecracker zones at the South Road Properties (SRP).
Cebu City Treasurer Ofelia Oliva warned vendors against selling firecrackers in malls, markets and other public places, and asked them to display their goods only in the designated firecracker zone at the SRP.
â€Don’t violate the law because we will surely impose penalties on those who do not comply,†Oliva said.
She said that under City Council Resolution 08-1394, firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices sold outside the designated area will be confiscated and destroyed as mandated under City Ordinance 82 and 1962.
The same resolution states that the display, sale and testing of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices shall be done only at the SRP between December and January.
Those who violate the ordinance will pay a fine of P5,000 and a permit fee of more than P2,000.
