“Population is wealth and it's population in fact that keeps this country economically afloat by the OFW all over the globe,” dagdag ni Cruz.

sayon ra ni sultihon ni congressman lagman karon kay di pa man eleksyon.  nganong di angay niya ni isulti?  kay ang church and state relationship cannot be overlooked.  separated, yes.  related, much more so.  state laws are made based on spiritual values and traditions of what are right and wrong.

a case in point:  kun naay pari nga suspect nga nakapatay, adto sa korte husayon, di ba?  di man moingon ang catholic church nga way labot ang state nila.

another case in point:  ang church wedding nagkinahanglan ug license gikan sa government.  moingon ba ang church nga di ni civil wedding mao nga way labot ang government?

naay relationship ang church and state because the two institutions are concerned with the very same people who are members of both.

conclusion:  this congressman is an idiot.  he is going to be one of those grandstanding politicians when this rh bill issue spills over.  naghilom pa ron ang uban.  pagkuyanap ani nga issue, daghan na na sila nga mo-speech for the tv audience.  hohum.

time for our lawmakers to have a real dialogue with church authorities to iron out issues and come up with meeting points.  (beyond the glare of media while the process is going on.  as it is, it's the media that's fanning this issue with their amplify-and-diminish reporting of facts.  remember the tourist bus hostage crisis and the role of the media in that tragedy?) >:(

I agree with you Ms. Isle.

The version of separation of church and state that is presently being foisted on an unsuspecting public is tantamount to a suppression of the fundamental constitutional rights of a class of citizens. Since when is Christian thought not permitted to influence a country that was founded on Christian principles? We share in the good and the evil of those we place in office. The Catechismof the Catholic Church teaches that, although “sin is a personal act, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them.We can be accomplices in the sins of others:
By participating directly and voluntarily in them;
By ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
By not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so.
I am happy ing stand jud ang catholic church bahin aning RH Bill.
If there is ignorance, instruct the ignorant. If there is obstinacy, exact the canonical
penalty. To fail to do so results not only in ignorance and obstinacy, but negligence and
permissiveness: the fertile soil in which a degenerating culture can multiply its errors,
bear evil fruit, and die.Religious leaders are in a unique position to influence the nation
and the world for the better by calling their people to high moral standards. Failure to do
so ultimately results in disaster, for the moral  demise of the nation always precedes the ultimate demise of a nation.

the catholic church must interfere with this issue (it's not a problem, yet).  both priests and laymen should be concerned with both spiritual and political issues because the two are interrelated.  can you imagine political issues that do not carry spiritual underpinnings?  it's called anarchy at its tamest form.

the news item posted on this thread does not say anything about people supporting the rh bill as sinners.

sorry to say, jas4, that your conclusion that "naay daghan pari ug madre nga naay mga anak... kay against... sila aning rh bill" stands on shaky grounds, devoid of basis and logic.  your conclusion should at least be data-based.  unsa kadaghana ang pari ug madre nga naay anak, unsay percentage in relation to the number of priests and nuns at a given time in a given place?  if you have these data rather than mere imagination and personal bias, your conclusion may at least sound credible if not believable.

kun matangtang ka sa imong trabaho diha, malipay ba kag naay moingon nga unsaon ta man, gitangtang kay kining dugo ug pilipino pareha man god ug dugo ni andrew cunanan nga gigolo nga mopatay ug datong bay0t nga versace.  that is illogical conclusion, without basis, without data.

di lang unta ta magpataka ug conclude ug way labot sa main issue as we wait for how this whole rh bill pans out, pros and cons all well-taken, civilized processes of legislation notwithstanding.

What about practicality, and where the option and concept lies?

The problem lies in the misinterpretation of contraception for abortion,
or implying that the use of contraception is synonymous with committing abortion.
But the two are mutually exclusive.

Abortion, as defined by medical professionals, is the termination of pregnancy.
This occurs after conception – after the sperm and egg meet.
Contraception on the other hand prevents the meeting of the sperm and egg in the first place.
Its intent, therefore, is no different from natural family planning methods endorsed by the Church.

The bill endorses age-appropriate sexuality education to ensure that young Filipinos
have the right information in matters of sex and reproductive health.
We cannot assume that upon reaching adolescence,
the young will not be curious about the workings of their body.
The bill intends to instill values for the youth to exercise responsible decision-making with regard to their sexuality.

Aber hallo here comes the modern youngters, hey we wanna have fun but likewise a responsible one.
The church teaches us morality and spirituality, the RH bill guide us to be more aware.
We wanna abide both, is there a solution in between..?

my thoughts, scarbzy migs...

it looks like it's difficult to distinguish between what is practical and what choice means for the two sides.  we know that both are agreed on family planning, it is in the means that the two sides diverge.  natural as against artificial, as we all know.

the church is well aware that there are artificial contraceptives that are abortifacients (these kill the fertilized ovum).  it is also aware that millions are allegedly involved in the lobby for the passage of the rh bill.

those big pharmaceuticals are the very sector that stands to profit most once hundreds of thousands of contraceptives are distributed for free.  these contraceptives are not donated by big pharmaceuticals.  often as not, these are paid for by our government with aid money from western countries and which we will have to pay for.  (there's no such thing as a free 'aid'.  it's always a loan in the guise of an aid, and usually the 'donor' that calls the shots includes a stipulation on population control, with specific time-bounded targets that practicality ensures can only be met by artificial means, with contraceptives bought by us from their own big pharmaceuticals.  the more our government follows this stipulation, the more will the donor release subsequent aids.  well, geopolitics equals multinational big businesses.)

some of us with some background on big-time project proposals for funding must be aware that sometimes aid that's entered as 'cash' on paper is actually the cost of the items that are 'donated'.  heaven help us if we have to pay, because it's a loan, for contraceptives worth millions, because the donor country had already bought them for us from their own pharmaceuticals.

these are just some of the things that have to be cleared out by the two sides, i suppose, to erase the mistrust.

lest we forget, wasn't it third world women who unwittingly became laboratory rats when the first contraceptive pills went on trial?  these were reportedly distributed first in third world countries, as aids, before these were made available in the countries that manufactured them.  all because the population of third world countries is the whipping boy of the west when it comes to poverty.  tell that to the homeless in new york.

Pero mariing tinututulan ng Simbahan ang panukala. Ayon kay retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz, labag ito sa prinsipyo ng Simbahan.

The church pays no taxes and is immune from criticism.

please check first what it means when the church doesn't pay taxes as you claim.  the information is accessible in the internet.

it's not immune from criticism.  your post is already a criticism by itself.

just asking, what is the relationship between christianity and and being a Pro RH bill?
christianity in faith wherein you believe in christ while being a pro RH bill means you believe in that proposal on what it can contribute to you as a person and to your family.
