BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health in Caraga (DOH-13) on Wednesday night reported the third patient infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the region.
DOH-13 Director Jose Llacuna, Jr. said the confirmed case is one of the six samples in the third batch of rapid antibody tests conducted by the local government of Butuan City.
The five other samples turned out negative, he added.
“The last sample tested positive. Now we have a new case of Covid-19 infection, the third in the whole of Caraga region,” Llacuna said.
The patient is a 10-year-old female from Butuan City with no health issues and no travel history outside the city, he added.
Llacuna said the patient had close contact with a person who was present during the 6-cock derby in Davao City.
The first reported Covid-19 infection in Caraga Region has a history of travel in Manila while the second case also had close contact with a person who attended the derby.
In a text message, Llacuna said the close contacts of the second and third patients were two different persons.
“At the moment we are closely coordinating with the city government of Butuan through the team of Mayor Ronnie Lagnada,” Llacuna said.
Under the new guidelines, the contact tracing will be done by the local epidemiological surveillance unit headed by the city health officer and the chief of the city police office.
The task of the team is to monitor, survey and report suspected Covid-19 cases to the DOH regional office, he added. (PNA)
