Small wage earners and housewives called yesterday for a realistic reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) which millions of households around the country use to cook their food daily, in the same manner that the prices of gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products have been rolled back.
The wage earners, both in the government and private sectors, along with housewives who go to the market daily and cook the food for the family, deplored that while there has been a continued reduction in the prices of gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and other petroleum products, reductions in the price of LPG have been negligible, few, and far between.
They noted that the price of gasoline has been reduced 11 times since July this year while that of diesel has gone down 10 times already. The price of LPG, in comparison, has been reduced four times.
"Malacañang has likewise asked big oil companies for a substantial rollback in the prices of gasoline and diesel, but there is no mention about the cost of LPG which millions of households use," said wage earners affiliated with the Integrated Labor Organization of the Philippines (ILOP), the National Council for Commuters Protection (NCCP), and the Confederation of Government Employees Organizations (COGEO).
ILOP President Florante G. Reyes said daily wage earners from private and public sectors have been crowding their labor union office in Quezon City daily, asking him to make representations with Malacañang, the Department of Energy, and the oil companies for substantial cuts in the prices of LPG corresponding to the rollback in the prices of gasoline and diesel.
