Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon assured Saturday that there is enough blood in the blood bank of the PRC that can be used to save lives of persons in need.
Gordon said every PRC all over the country reported how much blood they had given and received every 3 p.m. daily to determine if they had to go and get blood.
He said if Pangasinan, for instance, had
shortage of blood, he could source out blood from nearby chapters of the PRC "and bring it over here".
Gordon graced here various activities in observance of the National Blood Donors Month under the auspices of Pangasinan-Dagupan City-San Carlos City chapter.
Upon their arrival, Gordon and PRC Secretary-General Gwendolyn Pang led the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed Red Cross Pangasinan-Dagupan-San Carlos Chapter's warehouse on Barangay Herrero-Perez in Dagupan City.
The warehouse is vital to the PRC chapter which is now the regional blood center of the PRC for the whole of Region 1.
He said this would be the place where they would stock their supplies fanned out to the other PRC chapters for the whole region.
"We will never to have a shortage of blood anywhere, with more reason that this is the season for dengue," Gordon said.
Gordon then led in the signing of Memorandum of Agreements (MOA) with directors of various hospitals that assured blood to these health facilities any time whenever their patients need.
Signatories to the MOA with Gordon included the directors of the Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital, Specialist Group and Trauma Hospital, Luzon Medical Center, Pangasinan Medical Center, Nazareth Hospital and the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.
He also signed a MOA for the establishment of Red Cross Youth Council at the Urdaneta City University, University of Luzon and the City Division of San Carlos City, including the DeltaCom.
The signing was witnessed by Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez whose family's CSI Group of Company is one of the PRC's chapters' benefactors. - PNA
