Great Sperm Whale near an island off the coast of Zamboanga City, southern Philippines September 19, 2012.

Have you ever wondered what happens to the dead whales? Apparently, they get buried in the fish cemetery, if they happen to wash ashore near Zambonga City in the Philippines.

A 52-foot (16-metre) long Great Sperm Whale was spotted by the coast guard near Sacol island off the coast of Zamboanga City, southern Philippines on Wednesday.

at Zamboanga City, southern Philippines September 19, 2012.

City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola told the local newspaper the whale was pregnant.

The cause of the death of the sperm whale was natural sickness, Dela Cruz said. It was dead for at least two days before it was found by the coast guard.

The authorities have decided to bury the whale at the fish cemetery of the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology.

Giant whale buried at Marine State College fish cemetery in Zambo City

By Nonong Santiago
Friday, 21 September 2012

The huge female sperm whale was buried yesterday afternoon in a shallow grave at the fish cemetery of the Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology (ZSCMST) in Barangay Sta. Barbara, this city.

Hundreds of curious residents again gathered at the school’s compound to have a last glimpse of the giant sea mammal, which according to City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Ariola is pregnant.

The dead sperm whale was spotted, already dead, at 6 a.m. about 1.5 nautical miles off the coast of Sacol Island by a boat of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources that came from Basilan Province. It was then towed by the BFAR to the ports of Zamboanga for proper disposition.

Using backhoes, personnel of the General Services Office dug a huge hole and removed the ropes and straps tied around the carcass of the 52-footer (18 Meters) whale  on the flatbed of a 16-wheeler trailer truck during its burial.

tuo na lang kay klaro man kaayo sa news; there are names, there's a place, there's a date, there are pictures, etc.  katuhoan man gani nga naay spiderkoy, kini pa ba kaha.
