Baguio confident ECQ extension will be lifted April 30
« on: April 25, 2020, 11:41:43 AM »
BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong is confident the city will be removed from the list of local governments that will be subjected to an extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) as it pursues recovery and transition plans.

"We hope we will not be included," Magalong said on Friday following the Palace's announcement of the inclusion of Benguet on the list of areas in the country, which will be subjected to extended ECQ until May 15

Magalong said it is not just the number of cases that should be considered but also the system put in place by local governments to address the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

He said the city has several programs in place like the rapid test, assuring personal protective equipment supplies, an effective contact tracing system, area protection measures, availability of quarantine areas and centers, as well as the 'control' over the jurisdiction and the people within it.

Magalong welcomed the development, saying the city's ongoing sectoral planning activities to come up with post-ECQ recovery and transition plan anchored on the gradual easing up and reopening of essential economic activities will go on as scheduled.

During the week, the city held several consultations with representatives of the different sectors to gather inputs for inclusion in the city's recovery plan, which will start implementation after April 30.

Among the sectors include are business, transport, agriculture, tourism, governance, and medical, which will be aligned with each other.

Magalong said the current ECQ protocols and Covid-19 control systems will continuously be improved.

Baguio's prevailing Covid statistics are: 18 confirmed cases, five are active cases with the patients confined in medical facilities; 12 discharged from a hospital and one death. (PNA)
