Authorities on Tuesday nabbed a 27-year-old tourism graduate who is notorious in robbing tourists of their cash and other valuables in different hotels in Pasay City by using his talent -- speaking different languages.
Police identified the suspect as Joseph Tamayo who was arrested following a tip from hotel personnel who reported that the suspect, together with a Korean national, arrived at the hotel in Pasay around 6 am.
Tamayo’s modus operandi to victimize foreign nationals involves talking to them in perfect foreign language. After gaining his victims’ trust, he will then rob them of their possessions.
His latest victim was identified as Shin Dong Chui, 24, a Korean National.
Shin said that he did not notice that Tamayo already have his cash, worth P17,000 until the police apprehended the suspect. Authorities caught the suspect red-handed while trying to walk away with the victim’s other valuables.
Pasay Police Investigation & Detective Management Section (IDMS) chief PO3 Rodolfo Soquina Jr. said that he received a tip from hotel personnel Alfredo Nocum and Herman Abucar. The two believe that the suspect was responsible for the series of robberies inside hotels in Pasay.
On January 17, Tamayo arrived in RL Hotel along with a Japanese National identified as Akatsuko Kiyoshi, 22. After touring with the suspect, the victim was surprised to see that all his valuables were missing when he arrived at the hotel.
Investigations showed that the suspect has befriended his victims as they arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Once the suspect has gained the trust of his victims, he will convince them to join him in the hotel to save money from hotel expenses. - source: PNA
