SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique, Aug.10 -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office 6 is urging the local government of San Jose de Buenavista to create task force to monitor the reported dynamite fishing activities on its shores.
BFAR -6 Regional Director Remia Aparri, in an interview on Thursday, said they will be coordinating soonest with Mayor Elmer Untaran to form a task force to be trained by BFAR to monitor the seas.
“We will also intensify the information and education campaign to make the fishermen be aware of the hazards of dynamite fishing,”she said.
The problem on rampant dynamite fishing on the shores between San Jose de Buenavista and Cuyo island was raised during the face-to-face dialogue of local people with Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Pinol in Hamtic Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Residents believed that those involved in dynamite fishing are from Batbatan island, who intrude the municipal waters of San Jose De Buenavista.
During the dialogue, the need to intensify sea patrol activities was stressed while Pinol reiterated his previous commitment to give 15 patrol boats for Antique. (PNA)
