The ash explosion of Bulusan Volcano that occurred at 9:12 a.m. Monday as recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology's seismic network displaced at least 75 families in 17 villages of Irosin, Sorsogon, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) reported.
The MDRRMC said the displaced families were evacuated at Gallanosa National High School in Barangay San Pedro, Irosin town.
Phivolcs recorded the event as explosion-type earthquake lasting for about 19 minutes and was accompanied by a rumbling sound which was heard up to 10 kilometers away in the town of Juban, Sorsogon.
The explosion, according to Phivolcs, produced a grayish ash column that rose to a height of about three kilometers above the summit before drifting to the southwest.
The local MDRRMC reported heavy ash fall on eight of the affected 17 villages in Irosin, with Barangay Cogon accounting for 68 families or 288 persons displaced. - PNA
