Close this MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) Typhoon “Santi†continues to close in on Metro Manila early Saturday morning but is expected to exit the country later in the afternoon.
As of 4 a.m. Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the typhoon’s center was located 60 kilometers south southeast of Metro Manila with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers near the center
and gustiness of up to 160 kilometers per hour.
The typhoon is moving west southwest at 24 kilometers per hour and is expected to cross the Southern Luzon region within 24-36 hours.
Storm signal no.3 remains raised in the provinces of Bataan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Lubang Island and Metro Manila
Storm signal number 2 was raised over Pampanga, Bulacan, Quezon, Polillo Island, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Marinduque, Romblon and Calamian Group of Islands
Signal number 1 was up over Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Albay, Burias Island and
Northern Palawan.
According to PAGASA, Santi made landfall in Infanta, Quezon around 1a.m. Saturday, causing heavy downpour leading to power failure in Southern Luzon, including the Bicol region.
PAGASA expects gradual improvement in the weather later today (Saturday).
Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes under signals #3, #2 and #1 are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against flashfloods and landslides.
Those living along the coast in areas under signal #3 and #2 are advised to be on alert against storm surges and big waves generated by the typhoon.
