MANILA, Philippines – Another Pasay City Regional Trial Court(RTC) judge has approved ex-Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Benjamin Abalos Snr's request to travel abroad.
Pasay RTC Branch 117 Judge Eugenio dela Cruz said Abalos may travel to Taiwan from November 27 to 30.
Abalos, who is facing 11 counts of electoral sabotage before the Branch 117, is asking that he be allowed to go Taiwan to scout for bangus fingerlings.
Dela Cruz granted Abalos' motion and ordered the latter to post P110,000 travel bond and submit a compliance report upon his return to the Philippines.
Pasay City RTC's Branch 112, where Abalos is facing another two counts of electoral sabotage, had also allowed Abalos to leave for Taiwan. He was ordered to post a P200,000 bond.
The two lower courts saw Abalos' sincerity that he will come back to face charges of electoral sabotage.
The Sandiganbayan earlier disallowed the same appeal, however. In the anti-graft court, Abalos is facing plunder raps in connection with the mothballed NBN-ZTE deal. – with a report from Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
