42 curfew violators nabbed in Baguio amid ECQ
« on: April 25, 2020, 07:49:33 PM »
BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) arrested on Monday a total of 42 curfew violators during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

City public information office chief Aileen Refuerzo said those unauthorized Persons Outside Residence (UPOR) were nabbed in 18 areas here including the central business district (CBD).

The curfew violators were caught while walking on Quirino Highway (Naguilian Road), Victoria Village, Upper Magsaysay, Block 4, Hilltop market, Kisad Road, MOT checkpoint, Kayang Street, Lower Gen Luna Road, Public Market, Zandueta Street, Post Office Loop, Legarda Road, Mabini Street, Abanao Street, Wright Park, Lualhati Barangay, and Engineer’s Hill Barangay.

Police brought the violators to the Baguio Athletic Bowl and the different police stations where they were processed for their violations.

Two violators were found to be under the influence of alcohol and are now detained at Police Station 7, BCPO chief Allen Rae Co said.

Co said that his cops handcuffed violators who did resist arrest.

They were made to stay at the holding areas for six hours and were given lectures after which they were also booked with mugshots taken.

“They were lectured on the ECQ purpose and rules and warned not to repeat the same offense, with no prejudice to the filing of cases against them once the ECQ is lifted,” said Co.

Charges will be filed against them for violation of the Republic Act 11469 (Bayanihan to Heal as One Act) and Presidential Proclamation (PP) 922 or the State of Public Health Emergency after the lifting of the ECQ.

On April 19, police were able to apprehend 21 curfew violators from three areas in the city.

Co said that three were arrested at barangay Pacdal, five near Cooyeesan on Naguilian Road and 13 at the CBD.

He said the violators breached the 24-hour curfew and were outside of their houses without the required quarantine pass.

He said that they will continue to heighten their operations in the next days.

Refuerzo said Mayor Benjamin Magalong “ordered a boost in the ECQ implementation to ensure the people’s compliance and prevent further transmission of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).” (PNA)
