ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Four people were buried alive while three others survived in a landslide caused by heavy downpour in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, a police official said Wednesday.
Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 information officer, identified the fatalities as: Jeffrey Lamparas; Sannylito Tuquib, 21; Danilo Balicoco, 53; and Adrian Ledesma, 30, all residents of Purok 5, Barangay Tigbangagan, Kabasalan.
The survivors were identified as Ernacio Catipay; Joel Longgaquit; and, Joe Ledesma. They sustained injuries.
Galvez said the landslide occurred at around 5 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay PeƱaranda, Kabasalan.
She said the victims, who were rubber tappers, were resting in a shack located on a hillside when suddenly the soil eroded and buried them alive.
She said the victims sought shelter in a shack due to heavy downpour triggered by inclement weather.
The retrieval operations ended at 4 p.m. Tuesday when the body of the last of fatality was recovered. (TPGJR/PNAA)
