CEBU CITY -- Thirty-eight officers of the Talisay City Police Station were relieved Monday following reports of their alleged involvement in various illegal activities.
Cebu Provincial Police Community Relations Office head, Superintendent Virgilio Bayon-on, said that Talisay Police chief, Supt. Jason Villamater, recommended the relief of these officers, who have been allegedly receiving “goodwill” money from suspected illegal drugs and gambling personalities.
Some of these suspected rogue policemen will be reassigned to different police stations in other areas of Cebu Province, while others will be detailed at the Personnel Holding Accounting Unit pending investigation.
According to Bayon-on, the relief of these officers is part of the internal cleansing program of the Police Regional Office- 7 to rid their ranks of scalawags, especially those involved in illegal drug activities.
The Internal Affairs Service is currently conducting the investigation on these erring law enforcers, Bayon-on added.
Meanwhile, operatives from the Regional Special Operations Group, Provincial Intelligence Branch, and Talisay City Police arrested 11 men while playing “hantak” (cara y cruz) or tossing coins in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City over the weekend.
Nabbed were Edwin Bardillas, Abelino Oliveros, Emilio Cabansag, Donnatello Cañada, Gideo Caño, Rhonel Carin, Romulo Gabiana, Victorino Sanchez, Adrian Paras, Rosendo Reyes, and Archimedes Paran.
Recovered from the scene were a flat marble stone, three coins, and cash amounting to PHP4,800 believed to be proceeds of the illegal gambling game. (LBG/Michelle Bugtai/PNA)
