MANILA – About 27 of the 59 Filipinos who contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Singapore have recovered and have been discharged, Philippine Ambassador Joseph del Mar Yap reported on Wednesday.
The remaining 32 are undergoing treatment in hospitals, he said.
Amid the extended "circuit breaker" period to stem the spread of Covid-19 in the city-state, Yap advised all Filipinos to heed the instructions of the Singaporean government.
Under the measure, the government has imposed controlled access to areas susceptible to crowding and halted non-essential work operations.
Singapore has seen a sharp increase in its total cases over the past 10 days. Its Ministry of Health confirmed another 1,111 cases of the coronavirus disease on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases to 9,125.
The Philippines has so far extended a USD200 one-time assistance to about 300 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Singapore affected by the pandemic.
Meanwhile, several OFWs from the aviation sector returned to the Philippines as several flights have been grounded due to the pandemic.
On Monday, 14 OFWs from Singapore were repatriated and underwent a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
"There will be another flight that will take the aviation workers," Yap said, adding that the employers will shoulder the repatriation. (PNA)
