200 firms in Cebu City fail to renew business permits
« on: May 02, 2020, 03:19:18 PM »
CEBU CITY -- A total of 200 business establishments in this city have never renewed their business permits, the Management Information and Computer Services (MICS) Office of the City Government said Friday.

These 200 business firms are among the 14,413 companies earlier identified by Mayor Tomas Osmeña as operating without business permits, the MICS added.

Business Permit Section head Claire Cabalda said the city is losing much money in taxes because of these delinquents.

However, she said the exact amount of loss has yet to be computed.

“I could not give the exact total loss of the City yet, because each permit and each type or nature of business has different computation,” Cabalda said. “So, a huge computing job has yet to be done. We have to discuss this with the City Treasurer’s Office.”

Osmeña said there are about 30,000 business establishments in the city, but only half of them have business permits.

Last week, the mayor closed down the chain of restaurants of Rico’s Lechon and Chuva Chuva Spa for operating without permits.

However, Osmeña said he is considering on granting the violators amnesty if they come forward and ask for it. (with reports from Michelle Bugtai/PNA)
