2 killed, 5 hurt in Cebu truck mishap
CEBU CITY, Dec. 30 (PNA) -- Two persons were killed while five others were injured Friday morning when a truck loaded with tiles lost its brakes and rammed a center island on the national road in Toledo City, some 56 kilometers west of Cebu City.
Police said the two fatalities, who were just hitching a ride, were not immediately identified.
Police identified those injured as Eugene Amarillo, the truck driver; Ralph Hernandez, 30; John Michael Lada, 29; both residents of Sitio Langub in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City; Roy Brananola Jr., 28, and Lee Chin, both from Mandaue City.
Chin is the owner of Uni Home Hardware which was supplying the tiles to another hardware in Toledo City.
The injured victims were immediately brought to Carmen Copper Hospital in Toledo City.
PO3 Chris Gaco and PO3 Celso Maquidato of Toledo City Police Office said the truck driven by Amarillo, which was loaded with tiles intended to be delivered to a hardware in Toledo City, came from Cebu City.
The truck was running down the national road about 15 kilometers away from the Toledo City proper when the truck’s brakes suddenly malfunctioned, prompting the driver to swerve the truck towards the center island.
The two fatalities were thrown off the truck because of the strong impact and died of severe head injuries.
The truck’s front portion was also totally wrecked. (PNA)
