ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 8 - Two suspected drug pushers were killed while nine others, including four policemen, were wounded in a shootout in a remote village of Sulu, the police reported Tuesday.
The Sulu Police Provincial Office reported that the shootout occurred around 12:15 p.m. Monday in Barangay Poblacion, Maimbung, Sulu.
The slain suspected drug pushers were identified as Boogie Hajirin and Nurhassan Mandangan, the police said.
Wounded were Insp. Ergie Wanawan, Maimbung police chief; Jun Jumah; Ben Arah; and, Sahibul Mohammad. The injured civilians were identified as: Walna Yusop; Remal Yusop; Ramil Yusop; Warnilyn Yusop; and, Rashida Yusop.
Investigation showed that the shootout ensued as the two slain suspected drug pushers resisted the policemen who raided their houses in an anti-drug operation.
The police said the raiding team recovered from the shootout site an M-16 Armalite rifle with ammunition, three packs of suspected shabu and prohibited drugs paraphernalia. (Ely E. Dumaboc/PNA)
