114,000 voters in Pangasinan still not validated
DAGUPAN CITY, July 1 (PNA) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office called on some 114,000 registered voters in the province with incomplete biometric data to validate their registration with their offices before the deadline on October 31.
Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, reminded the voters that they cannot exercise their right to vote in the coming 2016 elections unless they complete their biometric data as provided for in the Mandatory Biometric Law.
He said most of the invalidated voters are from central Pangasinan particularly Dagupan City, Calasiao, Malasiqui, San Carlos City and Sta. Barbara, all having the most number of voters.
Salas said Pangasinan recorded 328,000 voters with incomplete biometric data before the start of validation last May 2014.
“We are already doing our best efforts to reach the voters so that they will have no excuse,†said Salas.Comelec offices in the province are conducting off-site registrations in barangays, schools and even private establishments like malls with the onset of registration and validation.
He said Comelec offices are conducting off-site registrations on Saturdays. Salas encourage voters to validate or register as early as now to avoid possible long queue comes the deadline.
Meanwhile, Salas attested that the records of Comelec provincial office is intact and safe despite the reports that some files of the agency were corrupted.
He explained that amid the corrupted 1.9 billion voter’s files which were submitted to the Comelec central office, the municipal and city election offices in the province have back-up files.
“We have back-ups and I believed it is the same with other Comelec offices in the province,†said Salas. (PNA)
