A total of 1,731 graduating high school students of the Pampanga High School (PHS), including their parents, attended a Career Guidance Coaching orientation organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 3 in San Fernando, Pampanga, in cooperation with the DOLE's Bureau of Local Employment and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA),
DOLE RO 3 director Raymundo Agravante reported Tuesday.
The career guidance coaching, a regular DOLE activity aimed to guide students and parents in making correct and relevant future career decisions was conducted before the students received their diplomas at the close of the school year.
“We took the opportunity before the commencement period to orient them on choosing college and technical vocational careers that are jobs fit-ready so they can easily apply for in-demand jobs two, three, or five years from now,†said Agravante.
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said helping students and parents make correct career choices is an important strategy in addressing the jobs-skills mismatch which is a government priority.
"With many industries and investors looking at Central Luzon as a potential base for business, high school students looking towards completing a course and joining the labor force should carefully consider their future qualifications and capacity for wage employment, if not entrepreneurship," Baldoz said.
Including parents in the career guidance coaching is part of the DOLE's holistic approach, Agravante said.
"For some time now, we strongly feel that parents play a huge role in shaping and empowering their children towards the right path in choosing their careers,†he said.
