Here is another favorite, though it is Japanese.

The song is sung by Hideaki Tokunaga in the late 1980s and is the original version of Mike Ito's "Ikaw Pa Rin".

Love this song...

Very true, also the Filipino is also fond of English versions, no?

I think it's not so much a fondness as a general needlessness to translate English songs to the vernacular, unless it is for novelty.  Makasabot na man gud ta sa Iningles. :)

Really? since when?

Since late May this year, Ginger.  A pathetic reality TV competition is being arranged to look for new members of Rivermaya.

PARE KO
By: Eraserheads

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YI4uuh1VV00

O pare ko,
Meron akong problema.
'Wag mong sabihin "na naman".
In-love ako
Sa isang kolehiyala.
Hindi ko maintindihan.
'Wag na nating idaan
Sa maboteng usapan
Lalo lang madaragdagan
Ang sakit ng ulo at bilbil sa tiyan.
Anong sarap,
Kami'y naging magkaibigan.
Napuno ako ng pag-asa.
Yun pala,
Hanggang doon lang ang kaya.
Akala ko ay puwede pa.
Masakit mang isipin,
Kailangan tanggapin.
Kung kailan ka naging seryoso,
Saka ka niya gagaguhin.
O Diyos ko! Ano ba naman ito?
Di ba, 'langhiya *
Nagmukha akong tanga.
Pinaasa niya lang ako.
Lecheng pag-ibig 'to.
Diyos ko,
Ano ba naman ito?
Sabi niya,
Ayaw niya munang magkasyota.
Dehins ako naniwala.
Di nagtagal,
Naging ganun na rin ang tema.
Kulang na lang ang sagot niya.
Ba't ba ang labo niya?
Di ko maipinta.
Hanggang kailan maghihintay,
Ako ay naiinis ** na.
Pero,
Minamahal ko siya.
Di biro,
T.L. ako sa kanya.
Alam kong nababaduyan ka na
Sa mga sinasabi ko
Pero sana naman ay maintindihan mo.
O pare ko,
Meron ka bang maipapayo?
Kung wala
Ay okay lang.
Kailangan lang ay
Iyong pakikiramay.
Nandito ka ay ayos na.

It has been practically eclipsed by "Huling El Bimbo" as the definitive Eraserheads song but "Pare Ko" is definitely a classic of OPM.  Maoy barkada anthem sa high school (and even up to college) pa ko. :)

Not really a Japayuki.  The story the lyrics tell is that they grew up together as childhood friends and learned about love just as he was blossoming into a young man and she into a young woman while learning to dance the El Bimbo.  Somehow they are separated from each other.  Many years later, he learns that she is working as a dishwasher in Ermita and is a single parent.  He also learns later that she had been run over at a dark street corner.  He then laments that he can no longer tell her he loves her and that only in dreams can he take her in his arms and dance with her their last El Bimbo.  Tananan, tananan.... ;)

Heres a classic country song---love it!

Wish You Were Here
by Red Nex

http://youtube.com/watch?v=C01lJnSPmMs

Lyrics:

Wish you were here
me oh my countryman
wish you where here

Wish you were here
don't you know the stove is
getting colder
and i miss you like hell
and i'm feeling blue

I've got feelings for you babe
do you still feel the same
from the first time i laid my
eyes on you
i felt joy of living
i saw heaven in your eyes in
your eyes

I miss your laugh i miss
your smile
i miss everything about you
every second's like a minute
every minute's like a day
when you're far away

Wish you were here
the stove is getting colder baby
wish you were here
a battlefield of love and fear

Back Were I come From ((dedicate this song to Valencia, Bohol))
By Kenny Chesney

http://youtube.com/watch?v=I2DSF8KtTso

Lyrics:

In the town where I was raised
The clock ticks and the cattle graze
Time passed with Amazing Grace
Back where I come from
Now you can lie on a riverbank
Paint your name on a water tank
Or miscount all the beers you drank
Back where I come from

Back where I come from
Where I'll be when it's said and done
I'm proud as anyone
Back where I come from

We learned in Sunday school
Who made the sun shine through
I know who made the moonshine, too
Back where I come from
Blue eyes on a Saturday night
Tan legs in the broad day light
TV's, they were black and white
Back where I come from

Back where I come from
Where I'll be when it's said and done
I'm proud as anyone
Back where I come from

Some say it's a backward place
Narrow minds on a narrow way
I make it a point to say
That that's where I come from

That's where I come from
Where I'll be when it's said and done
I'm proud as anyone
That's where I come from
Back where I come from
I'm an old Tennessean
And I'm proud as anyone
That's where I come from
That's where I come from
That's where I come from
........

This is an absolutely wonderful rendition of "How To Save A Life".

This is the piano version (no singing involved). Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.

I am in love with this version....
