i didn't know michael bolton from adam, honest.  so i did a little research because i've always known 'to love somebody' as a bee gees song.  an interesting tidbit:

At the request of the band's manager, Robert Stigwood, Barry and Robin Gibb wrote "To Love Somebody," a soulful ballad in the style of Sam & Dave or The Rascals, for Otis Redding, but Redding died in an aeroplane crash before having a chance to record the song. The Bee Gees recorded "To Love Somebody" at IBC Studios, London in March 1967 and released it as a single in mid-July 1967 in the US. (wikipedia)

i like both the bee gees and michael bolton's versions.  the latter, as posted here, may be slower (or is it because renditions of songs during live shows do tend to be slower?), but it has more pathos.  this has set me on a quest (aherm) to have the versions of rod stewart and bonnie tyler too.
