This is also one of my favorite movies. I remember watching this movie the first time when I first arrived to the United States. The setting, which captures the pristine virgin forests of the Appalachian mountains and the Catskills Mountain ranges of upper New York State, truly visualizes the natural beauty of the American heartland. As a child growing up, I had never seen such vast sways of virgin trees in such magnanimous numbers. It would be much later, in my college years, that I would be able to hike these said mountain ranges.
I was awed at the antagonist, Mogwa, who was so ruthless in his attacks. His hatred illustrates how blind , unforgiving anger can truly change a man externally as well as internally. His death illustrates the victory of good over evil. One scene that always sends a chill down my spine was the sacrificial death of Major Duncan Heyward.
