MANILA, Philippines - The Eraserheads reunion concert on Saturday night at the Bonifacio Global City Open Field was cut short after lead singer Ely Buendia suffered "emotional and physical stress."

Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical Center, where he is undergoing triple bypass operation, according to a report on the Philippine Entertainment Portal Web site.

"We regret to inform you that we have to cut the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to hospital because of emotional and physical stress he is experiencing," said Buendia's sister Lali to concert-goers.

The Erasherheads opened the concert at 8:15 p.m. with their hit song “Alapaap" and proceeded to play classics such as “Ligaya," “Wag Mo Nang Itanong," “Fruitcake," among others.

More than 10 songs were played to eager fans at The Fort and around 9:30 p.m. the band took a 30-minute break. Forty minutes later, Buendia’s sister went up to the stage to break the sad news.

Fans said that in the middle of the reunion concert, Buendia stopped playing his guitar. They said the lead singer sat on the floor and bowed his head. Then the stage lights went out.

The Eraserheads was a popular Pinoy rock band of the 1990s formed by Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro.

A separate report on GMA News’ Saksi said Ely was declared in stable condition after the operation.

Ely’s wife, Diane, said the angioplasty procedure was successful, and the singer-composer is now on his road to recovery.

“He’s OK. He’s in stable condition," said Dian.

However, the report said Buendia has to stay in hospital for two more weeks for a cardiac rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Ely’s former band mates, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro, hinted at holding another concert reunion.

“Salamat sa pagpunta. Salamat sa pag-unawa. Babawi kami," they said.


Ely was rushed to the Makati Medical Center and his former band mates, accompanied by Ely’s sister Lally, broke the sad news to thousands of fans who attended the concert.

Organizers said fans understood the reasons for the abrupt end of the concert, but they requested for a follow-up reunion concert.

I'm a fan of ERASERHEADS.
Their music practically made me survive through college.
I can't imagine how I could have passed home economics had it not been for "Overdrive" ("Magdra-drive ako"... lots of food mentioned at the end of the song)... or made it through a heartache without "Pare Ko" ... or got out of a nasty situation were it not for their advice in "Maling Akala".

i love eraserheads too!
the 60000 fans that went there, 10 years ago were the tambays, hiskul students. or college slackers..who now are professionals na..hehe
that's why walang riot on the announcement that the concert was to be cut short..lol
