The Shanghai Expo 2010 has made history and set new standards for World Expo, said the Secretary-General of the International Expositions Bureau (BIE) on Friday.

Vicente Loscertales, Secretary-General of the BIE made the remark in his speech delivered at the ceremony for the China National Pavilion Day.

He said, "You have achieved new records: a record number of participants, a record number of visitors, and you have built the largest site ever."

Loscertales said, "China has been able to fully interpret and to put into practice the core values of education, innovation, cooperation which are the foundation on which an Expo develops its legacy."

Loscertales commended China's openness to the world and cooperation with BIE. He also said the overwhelming success of Shanghai Expo 2010 will inspire future hosts of World Expos.

Further, he applauded the "extraordinary ability" of all the municipal, provincial and governmental departments to "manage, coordinate and communicate against a backdrop of extreme complexity and permanent uncertainty."

"In this sense, Expo Shanghai 2010 is possibly the largest operation in Expo history," he added.

As the first such global event hosted by a developing country in the history of the World Expo, Shanghai Expo has enjoyed participants form 246 countries and international organizations and more than 100 foreign leaders and nearly 60 million Chinese and foreign visitors in the past five months.
